Capacity Building

To enable the team to have the capacity to train others in the future, BK members undertook a month-long training organised for the group by one of its partners, Brite Academy International (BAI), in 2022.

The purpose of the training programme was to build BK members’ capacity and skills in the domains of administrative and organisational management, effective communication, teamwork, project management, financial management, fundraising management, strategic management, and community management.

Solidarity Activities

Our pioneering solidarity activity involved a visit to prison inmates. In 2019, BK made material and financial donations to inmates of the Buea Central Prison, worth one million two hundred thousand (1,200,000 FCFA), which is approximately 1950 USD. Among the materials provided were foodstuffs, clothing, toiletries, detergents, and basic medications.

This gesture was highly applauded by both prison officials and inmates, who described it as one of the rarest gestures the inmates have received from a young, dynamic group in recent times.

Water, Sanitation and Healthcare support program

So far, we have been able to fix up and improve health care facilities and raise awareness about health issues like the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to this acute health infrastructure and staff problem in the Bangem District Hospital, Brothers’ Keepers carried out a renovation project of the entire District Hospital between October and November 2020, following member donations and appeals to some of its internal and external benefactors. The activities that characterised this project include repairs and repainting of key blocks in inpatient, maternity, and toilet facilities; a general hygiene and sanitation campaign; and the donation of hospital materials. This project, which cost the group approximately $6,000 USD, also saw the donation of materials such as a printer, wheelchair, crutches, many bedspreads and blinds, hygiene and sanitation materials, including detergents, etc.

Educational support program

Our Education and capacity building activities include education/school assistance, rehabilitation, and construction of rural educational infrastructure.

A major rural educational infrastructure project BK has undertaken is the construction of a nursery school in Kupe village in Tombel Sub-division. Kupe, which used to be one of the safe zones during the anglophone crisis, has never had a government-constructed primary school since its creation, and so saw its nursery school kids attend school in a dilapidated community hall.
In response, we mobilized resources to construct two classrooms for the pupils of this school in 2021, a gesture highly appreciated by the parents and youths of the community.
